There are personal preferences, and there are some favorite choices, but your skin type is the best decision-maker for which type shall suit you the best. The right one shall be effective and more suitable organically. There are various choices, from liquids to gels and creams. Let's check more about them.
Weather conditions decide a lot of factors in determining the right choices. India generally witnesses warm temperatures and hot weather conditions. For southern India, it is extremely hot and humid. For people with oily skin, a brush that can wipe away excess oil or sweat on the skin is ideal.
Powder blush is ideal for getting a shine-free finish and a nice flush of color for the day. Gel blushes are another choice as they are water-based and oil-free. These blushes, unlike powder ones, help give a clean and sober finish. They're ideal for a no-makeup look on days.
Dry skin needs moisture-based products, and liquid or cream blush is an apt choice for this skin type. It absorbs into the skin and acts as an added moisture layer on skin. Powdered blushes can emphasize flakes and fine lines for this skin type; it is better to avoid powdered ones.
Liquid blushes require careful application as getting the right amount can be tricky sometimes; some products dry up fast as well. With regular application, you can get the hang of applying the right amount and getting the precise right touch-up as needed.
Cream Blushes provide a smooth and velvety touch on your skin. You can get a good amount of color with a small application.
For shimmery blushes in cream or liquid formula, the best way to apply is using your ring finger. Take very little product on your ring finger, apply and blend on your cheeks' apples, and slowly build up the colour if need be.
For matte blushes in cream or liquid formula, try using a damp beauty blender for the best results. You can also spritz your blender with a fixing spray and then blend the blush for a better colour payout. Some of the best liquid blushes for Indian skin tones are - Petra by Pixi and cheek tints by Benefit.
If you have normal skin, every blush type is suitable for your skin, and the choice of blush depends on your personal preference. Powder, liquid, or gel blush all can work well. To get a smooth flush, powdered ones can work well; for a no-makeup look day, a gel blush can save the day. You can easily choose and vary between all different types.
Choose as per occasion and timing. For instance, I would choose a matte powder blush over a cream blush during the day. It would naturally flush my cheeks without making them look muted.
Whereas during the evening or night outs, I would rather choose a shimmery gel or cream blush that adds a slight sheen along the cheekbones. If I’m running late for work or any other important assignment, I would take a cheek tint or stain and quickly use my fingers to blend it well before I step out.
Let's look at the different shades and how different shades are suitable for different skin types. Whether it be a soft pink, peach, deep pink, mauve, or deep shade, we've covered roughly all to give you the idea.
For ones with fair skin, vibrant colors are not suitable as they look too dark and give an artificial look. Soft colors like pink and peach, colors that look like your skin tone, are more suitable—a few colors to name light corals, pink.
Petal pink blushes are suitable for ones with cool (pink, blue) undertones and warm (yellow, golden) undertones; a soft peach shade is an apt choice.
It's important to go with minimal blush with fair skin. This is because even the slightest of excess colour buildup looks unflattering on fair skin tones and takes away from the face's innocence. It’s always a great idea to mix a couple of shades and mix it with the bronzer before applying.
You can opt for darker shades for medium-tone ones than very light ones to get a better finishing and appearance. Stick to colors like deeper pinks and peach for a better finish. You can add layers to make them vibrant or opt for a bit deeper shade.
A few shades like rich pinks and mauve shades can provide a goodly finish on this skin tone. Berry shades are a good choice for adding radiance to cool medium skin tone, and a peachy pink shall suit warm medium skin tone better.
A Hack: You can always use your demi-matte lipsticks or creamy lipsticks as a blush. Mono-tone makeup looks that use the same lipstick as an eyeshadow; lipstick and blush are hard to achieve.
But if done with perfect blending, they can look very attractive. Use your ring finger to apply the lipstick as a blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards towards the hairline.
For ones with dark skin tones, deep shades like deep red, orange or brown are much more suited. The choice for this skin tone should hinge more towards highly bright colors. These shades shall add a radiant look than a washed-out one.
Tangerine or brick orange blush is suitable for yellow or golden undertones. Deep berry or raisin hue goes well with cool undertones.
Use more bronze, wine, burgundy, cherry, coffee and taupe shades for dark skin tones. It's harder for the blush to stand out under darker skin tones.
To make the blush jibe with your overall makeup look, use a brown-toned bronzer around the cheekbones and along the jawline. This step will amp up your look by adding a punch of warmth to your blush. Have a look at this Makeup Revolution Blush Palette.

They are also highly pigmented, so you get an amazing color payoff, and they are long-wearing, too, lasting for almost 8 hours. They have a matte finish, but they won’t make you look washed out or flat and give your face a lovely hint of color.
This is an absolute bargain because you get the quality of a high-end product without shelling out as much money. Therefore, if you are looking for a blush with a pretty good shade range (10 shades) to choose from and does not compromise on the quality, this is the perfect product for you!
The formulation of these blushes is really amazing, too, as they are very pigmented and apply smoothly. Although these have a matte finish, they will not make you look flat and instead give you a naturally radiant look.
Furthermore, they are safe for those with sensitive skin, they blend like a dream, and they’re also long-wearing, lasting for about 8 hours. If you are looking for a high-end blush that does not have shimmer and can be used for everyday use and more glamorous occasions,
They have shimmer in them, although the shimmer's amount differs based on the shade, so all those who like shimmery makeup will like these more. Furthermore, they are long-wearing and will last for 7-8 hours even without a primer. They are great for newbies, too, as they are effortless to use since they are both blendable and buildable.
They are also good for those who want a product that they can use on-the-go as you can conveniently apply this using just your fingers! If you’re all about that dewy look, but do not want to spend a lot of money, then you should definitely get this one!
Furthermore, there are 3 different shades, so regardless of your skin tone, you can probably find an option that works for you. The downside to these, though, is that they are costly compared to other blushes, and they are quite delicate because of the softness of the formula, so they can break easily if you’re not careful with them.
Although this is a powder blush, the formulation of these feels very creamy and has an amazing color payoff. This is a long-wearing cruelty-free option, and is perfect for those who want their blush to last for over 9 hours!
However, if you are a newbie to makeup, then it would better for you to choose one of the other options on the list as these blushes can be hard to blend if you end up applying too much. Besides being a mid-range product, the shade range is limited to 6 shades, and only two of those look great on deeper skin tones.
This powder blush gives an all-day natural-looking color. One of the great positives about it is blendable and gives a natural finish; it enhances the skin tone and gives a radiant glow too. You can wear it comfortably all day.
It is available in 6 different shades. The product has received great reviews about the little glitter effect and the natural finish it delivers. For natural-toned makeup, this is a great choice.
This product is also ranked higher than the rest because it is safe for sensitive skin, it applies smoothly and gives a satin finish, This is highly pigmented, though, so you might have to spend a while applying it correctly.
Another downside is that without a primer, it’s not very long-wearing, lasting for about 3-4 hours only, and the shade range is quite limited for those with deeper skin tones. If you do not like to spend a lot of time doing your makeup, there are other considerable choices.
Despite being a cream-type product, it does not clog pores, so it works for normal, oily skin types. Although it does not contain any parabens and sulfates, it is a scented product that may irritate those with sensitive skin.
The shade range is better than some other products but still limited, so there are only a few shades that suit deeper skin tones. Even though it does lean towards the more expensive end of mid-range products, it only lasts for about 4-5 hours.
If you are looking for a cruelty-free option with good color pay off and gives a really shimmery finish, this is the perfect product for you. It has quite a bit of shimmer, so it is great for parties, festivals, and nights out as well.
It only has two shade options, and neither of those shades works well for darker skin tones. Furthermore, without a primer, it only lasts for about 4-5 hours. If you are not a fan of shimmery blushes, though, then you should consider one of the other products instead.
