Clay masks may seem really easy to choose as there couldn’t possibly be as many differences between various types. However, contrary to what many of us may think, there are quite a few things we must keep in mind to choose the best clay mask for ourselves.
The three most commonly used clay in face masks are fuller’s earth, bentonite, which we locally know as “multani mitti,” and kaolin, often called China clay. There’s also volcanic clay, which is a relatively new ingredient and is often more expensive than the other two types.
Bentonite clay is rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, and many more components. Of course, they remove the excess oil but they also protect the skin from toxins like dirt, sweat, or any other impurities.
Fuller's earth pretty much does a similar thing to the skin but what makes them unique is their ability to give an even skin tone while unclogging the pores. Lastly kaolin: has a white-colored clay and is perfect for those with sensitive skin because it has the lowest pH level, so it maintains the natural oil while maintaining the essential moisture on the skin.
There are also masks that use lemon as a brightening agent, and some others use tea tree oil to treat acne-prone skin. However, aside from the good ingredients, you must also keep an eye out for those that aren’t good for your skin, such as mineral oil, preservatives, artificial coloring agents, or alcohol-based products.
They might tempt you because they will show sudden results, but in the long run, they'll do more harm than good, giving you dry or patchy skin.
Deep-cleansing clay masks are recommended for oily skin types as they remove any extra sebum from the skin; exfoliating ones are good for those with dull skin as they get rid of all the dead skin, and firming clay masks are suitable for all those with ageing skin.
Look for the type of container as well that suits your situation. So the masks that are thicker, a tub will be better to apply them properly all at once. If you want a liquid one, the tube will suit the best to avoid any spillage on your clothes or floor.
You just have to apply this mask on clean skin and leave it for 15 minutes, and after washing it with lukewarm water, you’ll see the freshness on your face.
